Mile 27 Academy

If you are a coach looking to develop your knowledge in coaching ultra runners or simply want to be able to coach yourself then the Mile 27 Ultra Coaching Certificate presents an evidence-based approach to all facets of coaching ultra runners.

The course has two main Modules

1. How to train for an ultramarathon

This is for those who want to take control of their own training. It teaches you the underpinning reasons for all the different training sessions  and when and how they should be implemented in a  year round training plan

2. How to coach someone to train for an ultramarathon

If you are looking to coach others then this is for you. It includes the “How to train for an ultramarathon ” module and builds on it with how to coach others.

What you will learn

If you are looking for a collection of training plans for different distances then this is not for you. We go deep on the whys and hows of training, giving you the underpinning knowledge to create unique programs specific to the individual, their strengths and weaknesses and the races they are training for.

The coaching section of the course looks at the bigger picture outside just training.   We delve into the physiology of training and racing , coping with injuries , balancing life and training and how to motivate  and be a mentor to your athletes

If you are just interested in how to design training plans for your own training then the first section is for you ( although if you are keen to learn more on the physiological  aspects to performance then do both models ). The coaching section teaches you all you need to know to effectively coach ultrarunners physically and psychologically.

A small sample of what you will learn includes

How to determine training intensities for all types of runs from recovery  runs to VO2 max workouts

How to structure your training year to bring your athlete to peak performance in their goal races

How to analyse workout and race data and how that drives  your future training  prescription

Nutrition principles in training and races

How to coach a strong mindset for both training and races

Why training  zones  should not be used  in training prescription and what to use instead
